The "Pro" in MacBook Pro has slowly degraded to "it comes with a fan so that the chip can keep chugging when it gets a hard workload, unlike the MacBook Air where the chip will throttle since there's no fan".

If anything, Pro really means pro now. It used to just be the default laptop everyone bought because the Air was too slow and had a terrible screen. The 2020 MBP was almost as thin as the MBA and had barely any more connectivity. Now it's bulky and provides more power than normal users need.
The base model chip on the Air is binned too - 8 GPU cores on the Air vs 10 on the Pro.
