Backblaze drive stats used to be very useful when purchasing consumer drive stats for my laptops, e.g. in 2015:

For various reasons I don't consult Backblaze stats much nowadays, but I wish this kind of reliability and failure rate information were more available for other products, especially LED light bulbs.

I still use Backblaze drive stats and lifetime annual failure rates to help me decide which make and models of drive I might want to buy for my NAS upgrades.

Why did you stop using them?

Outside of drives, I rely on Consumer Reports for reliability reports. They’ve got the longest history of any organization I know of that gathers data like this, across the widest array of product types.

I don’t necessarily trust their reviews on what is the best product in a given field of technology equipment, but I do trust their longitudinal reliability statistics. I try to take both sets of factors into consideration any time I am looking at buying products.

No kidding! About twelve years ago, I outfitted a house with LED bulbs for about $5 a pop (a bargain at the time!) and those lasted for six years, until I moved. In the new house, LEDs were all less expensive but now they also fail quickly. I'd HAPPILY pay $5 for eternal bulbs again.
