You are not selling Assets but Stocks. Stocks come under Equity not Assets.

We are talking about people here, not corporate accounting. Stocks are financial assets.

Stocks are still owned by people who have a stake in the company. They are not owned by the company.

Edit: Again, stocks are not financial Assets.
