Why? I'm genuinely curious. Couldn't you simply not touch the screen? It's what you're supposed to do for all non-touchscreen laptops anyway.

My guess is so they can wipe the screen without triggering an errant click. Like how you'd lock your phone when wiping oil off the screen.

accidental touch, especially by others looking over my shoulder and pointing
