Everybody is saying their tax accountant messed up and the models caught it which makes me think, why aren't tax accountants doing the same thing lot of us are doing - ask LLM to do the prep and they just review and finalize?
Can't be good getting caught with mistakes and losing customers?

I follow a tax guy on Twitter and he said it is because of regulations.
I just wonder why Intuit can't have some local model and do it within guidelines.
And you can add me to the list of people who ran my tax filings through AI and found mistakes.
Most were the CPAs fault but I forgot to include a local folder when uploading and codex was able to recognize that my CPA did not include those forms.
I would not advocate replacing CPAs with AI but they can definitely fact check the CPA.

Not even getting AI to do the work, but just do basic review of it.
Additionally, I think the industry and individual practices are probably still figuring out contracts, accountability, and legality. Will their insurance policies cover mistakes made by an AI?
I'd also guess that its one thing for you to feed your financial documents to Claude; would you feel as comfortable if your accountant were feeding it to an unknown model of their choosing? I'm not so sure I'd be.
