I'm still waiting for one of these companies to provide the actual hard part.

The web front end (chat UI) that the business actually interacts with often needs to be adapted to the domain. We have tried to use the various chat UIs out of the box with customization on top and all of this has failed spectacularly. There are cases where we need to pop into an inline approval flow with custom elements and controller actions. How do you hook the existing platforms for this? There zero path. MCP can give you an information channel, but it does not enforce the required UI/UX flow for certain tool calls. We could either compromise on UX or rebuild chatgpt.com from scratch. We ultimately went with the latter.

I think you may want to look at ChatGPT Apps. It’s like a React app you can embed in the chat directly. The LLM cannot see the app itself , only whet your MCP actually sends to the agent. We did this with a customer and it looks very cool and we can do all sorts of advanced things like any UI can without agent calling tools unless you want it to.

I've been using Tanstack AI (https://tanstack.com/ai) for this. It's been really easy to setup and sturdy. They offer the foundation for tool calling, handle reconnects, persistence, computer use, voice and more. If you're on the web I really recommend it

Is it something similar to https://www.openui.com/ or something more deterministic?

i'm actually been building exactly this for the last couple of months. it's a tui that works around extensible ui and workflows concepts, wrapping your existing claude code / pi. currently only me and a few colleagues are using it. i would eventually open source it, but currently i keep iterating so breaking changes arise here and there. say the word if you want to give it a try, i'll open the currently-private repo for you.
