I look forward to being able to plug my iPad into my non-touch MacBook, though, and using its touch screen as an external MacOS-touch enabled peripheral.

That’ll hold me over until the next generation of touchscreen MBP’s, or at least until touch is just a normal feature in the Apple world, whichever comes first ..
