I've worked in offices and have been a part of system and staff reorganizations many times. It takes a dedicated team of specialists 3-4 months to work out the new system and implement those changes... and these upgrades were miniscule compared to the USAID program.
So when I hear that this massive federal program was randomly dismantled by one unqualified guy with next to no understanding of the agency and with zero consideration for the consequences, it pisses me the hell off. It's estimated that the mindless and instantaneous removal of the program will cause the deaths of 14 million people worldwide from disease and starvation. 4.5 million of them are children under 12.
Look, I was all for making government more efficient, but it was just a ruse to give Musk access to the agencies that were conducting oversight of his contracts. Even the ones that were actively suing his companies.
Otherwise where did all the saved revenue go? $54 Billion cut from USAID, another $50 Billion or so from Medicare, and all the jobs cut etc.
So where is that money? Government spending is outpacing the previous administration, national debt rising faster than ever when it should be going down, And there's nothing to show for all the spending and the debt... no roads or rail or infrastructure or jobs programs or affordable healthcare programs...
You can argue the subtleties of the role of an HR department or the power of the courts and congress to exercise oversight of the executive branch, but it's really irrelevant at this point. The 700,000 who have already died are beyond caring.
